FAQs

PPC (or pay-per-click) is online advertising.

It is a strand of digital marketing whereby advertisers pay a fee each time one of their ads is clicked. It short, it’s a way of buying visits to your site, rather than attempting to ‘earn’ them organically through good SEO practice.

There are different ways to do PPC. You can advertise on social media, on other websites and on Google’s search engine results pages.

There are more than 1.2 trillion searches on Google each year. It’s no surprise, then, that Google Ads is the most popular way to advertise your business online.

Google Ads lets your business pay money to appear at the top of the search engine results pages (and other areas of Google) without needing good SEO. The advertiser bids on chosen keywords and lets them pay on a per-click basis.

Each business will compete with other advertisers for space in the search engine results pages. Google will reward advertisers based on factors including:

  • Quality of adverts
  • Relavance of keywords
  • Size of budget

Google also looks at an advertiser’s Ad Rank. This is a metric calculated by multiplying cost-per-click bid against quality score (which includes click-through rate, relevance and content quality). This means that regardless of budget size, every advertiser has a chance of getting visibility.

There is no definitive answer here. Pay-per-click advertising works like an auction. Essentially, the more money you pay for it, the higher chance you have of receiving results.

This depends on three things. Firstly, what type of business you are; secondly, how good your PPC strategy is; and thirdly, how willing you are to spend money on pay-per-click campaigns.

It’s best to view PPC as an add-on to organic SEO efforts. If you’re after quick, short-term results, PPC is your answer. But be wary that it won’t help you build sustainable traffic over time.
